OUR LAYERING GUIDE FW 24/25

As autumn rolls in and winter threatens on the horizon, the cyclist’s rides are often preceded by a familiar internal debate: What should I wear? Which baselayer? A vest in my pocket? Or maybe a jacket?  Etxeondo’s layering guide aims to help you with these difficult decisions, so you can understand the products in your cycling wardrobe a little better. In the end, combining different garments, each complementing the other, will keep you dry, warm and comfortable, so all you have to worry about is pushing the pedals.

From 12°C to 18°C

A thermal jersey is the perfect solution for those intermediate temperatures. This season, we have the options of Iku/Ika, Kalu/Kala and Alde/Alda Thermo. These highly breathable options keep you dry, warm and comfortable.  Combine it with an undervest such as the Mesh – in warmer temperatures – or the Kea, on cooler days.  Another option is to carry a vest in your pocket, such as the Busti or the Ligero, for when the temperature drops in the morning or early afternoon and you need extra protection from the cool air. When it’s a little too warm to wear a full bibtight, combining our Orhi Hydro thermal shorts with leg warmers will keep you comfortable as the day goes on.  Extra tip! Sometimes we need extra warmth in the first few kilometres of the ride. One solution can be to wear arm warmers underneath the thermal jersey; once you’ve warmed up, it’s easy to take them off and put them in your pocket.

From 6ºC to 12ºC

Although cold is subjective and depends on the tolerance of each rider, in this temperature range we do recommend a jacket. Etxeondo’s jackets use GORE-TEX and Windstopper®, for guaranteed protection against wind and rain. Examples include the wind-stopping Dena, the Arri/ Ara with Primaloft fabric, the Lauki, the Teknika or the redesigned Gor 76.  Hesitant to take a jacket? Another option is a thermal base layer such as the Kea, under a thermal jersey with a Windstopper® or Primaloft vest, such as the Arima and Arri.  The Orhi/Olaia Thermo and Kom/Koma Thermo bib shorts also stand out, both designed to offer maximum comfort in cooler conditions.

From -2ºC to 6ºC

For very cold days, Etxeondo has the Illuna thermal base layer. A benchmark garment in professional cycling, it is constructed from a hollow fibre fabric that maintains body temperature when the mercury plummets. The combination of Illuna with the Gor 76 jacket is close to perfect. Etxeondo also has the Elur/Elurra, also designed to withstand the coldest temperatures.  Etxeondo’s outer layers are also an option for maintaining body temperature, such as the Ura, which guarantees 100 per cent waterproofing. We also have a secret weapon: The Geldi sock. This sock, well known in professional cycling, incorporates a thin layer of Windstopper® across the toes to keep the feet warm in all weathers.
The importance of accessories  Etxeondo accessories are designed to complement any winter outfit. Arm and leg warmers, hats, socks, overshoes, gloves… Depending on the tolerance of the cold in certain areas, these accessories can transform your ride.
